So what’s next?

Cake Encore

It may be Thursday tomorrow but Pop Asylum is squeezing another #cakefriday in for good measure.

Please come along from 11am to bid the space farewell and perhaps even leave your mark.

Pop Asylum started on the 1st March 2011 as a project seeking to bring creative people together in new spaces. Tomorrow is the 31st and Pop Asylum is closing. On the last day, as with the first, the walls are blank and empty. This time, paper is being attached to one wall and you are invited to scribble a message, paint or hang a bit of your own artwork before Pop Asylum closes up.

Look forward to welcoming you in the traditional Pop Asylum manner - tea, cake and art from 11am tomorrow.

See you there.

The morning after the Friday before

Yes, it’s true. After a busy and indulgent #cakefriday Pop Asylum was feeling a little deflated. Floor to ceiling art one day, blank walls the next. Now the dust has settled slightly, a big thank you to everyone who popped in, brought baked goods and stayed to chat. You’re great. Art and conversation spilled into the street and passing shoppers were drawn in to participate - and it wasn’t in a queue.

Fortunately, Lynne @mishadesign kept our spirits up over the weekend by bringing her large, silk prints to Pop Asylum. See here http://twitpic.com/4d7alv

This week, the last and not to be missed exhibition is from Have You Seen Bob? This open project has gone global with Bobs travelling to the ends of the earth and into the hands of some pretty nifty photographers. There’ll be examples from 45 countries in Pop Asylum from Monday. Check out their popular Facebook page to find out more and introduce yourself on Twitter @haveyouseenbob

Hope to see you before Pop Asylum closes on Thursday 31 March.

Last chance Friday

You do know its #cakefriday at #popasylum tomorrow from 11am? Well, if not you do now and you are very welcome to attend. Pop Asylum bakers are busy cake-making right now so we can enjoy our last Friday - in the style to which we accustomed.

Following on from the post below, here are more details about 3 of the 6 artists who are currently showing - and whose work you’ll be able to admire.

Fiona Hooper has brought some her landscapes and still life paintings all the way from Surrey to Pop Asylum. Check her out in Artists and Illustrators magazine here.

Lynne Misiewicz @MishaDesign is a Tunbridge Wells Artist, Muralist, Creative Designer and Illustrator. She is the person responsible for the recent Hospice in the Weald mural. Have a look at it in This is Kent.

Carl Abrams @carlsphotograph has brought Pop Asylum some new photographs. Go to his website and guess which ones you’re going to see.

We also have a very special guest this Friday. A local lady, who in 70 odd years has worked with some really well-known artists. She has allowed Pop Asylum to show two of her own personal collection of paintings. She will be here on Friday to share some of the stories behind them.

Could be interesting. More tea anyone?

We’re here

We, as in, 6 (maybe more) artists. Here at 92 Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells. It’s time to get in a lovely, jumbly mess at Pop Asylum until Friday 25th March. Here are the first three people showing this week:

Mike Brondbjerg @mikebrondbjerg uses stencils on canvas and wood as well as more traditional printing techniques to create colourful and modern work.

Cate - uses an whole range of paints and tools to create different styles of artwork. She has four pieces in Pop Asylum. Come in to chat to her, see for yourself and find out how she does it.

Louise Putman @REcreateUK has brought her Bauhaus Dollshouses in to look at or play with - you decide

More tomorrow on Fiona, Lynne and an artist whose name we haven’t got yet (?). His work will be here though.

Tea and cakes as ever this Friday at 11am. Last Friday of Pop Asylum this March. All welcome.

Hashtag #popasylum and you’ll find some of the following positives about the place:

Pop Asylum is getting better and better.

The work is looking great. The cake for #elevensestime on Friday is a big draw too.

Was indeed a great weekend.

As if you needed further endorsement. Pop in and find out what it’s all about. Hope to see you here.
